Introduction
At KG College of Arts and Science, hackathons are run by two schools in partnership with industry. The School of Computational Sciences conducts hackathons every semester in collaboration with industry partners, covering areas like software development, AI, cybersecurity, RPA, and open source. The School of Commerce and Management runs its own cycle every semester in collaboration with Board Infinity, focusing on finance, business strategy, and product thinking.
Beyond school-level events, both schools also come together for interdepartmental hackathons where students from different disciplines form cross-functional teams and solve problems that need both technical and business thinking.
All hackathons are conducted in association with the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) and follow the same format: small teams, a fixed build window, industry mentors on hand, and a demo round at the end. No prior experience needed.
How It Works
Most hackathons at KG College of Arts and Sciences are single-day events, typically running for 24 hours straight. Here's how a typical one goes:
Register
Sign up through the registration form — solo or with a team. No team? We run a matching session on the day.
Check In (Morning)
Arrive, collect your ID badge, and settle into your workspace. Bring your laptop, charger, and student ID. Food, Wi-Fi, and power are on us.
Build (All Day)
Once the clock starts, you have until the deadline to go from idea to working demo. Workshops and mentors are available throughout the day if you get stuck. No fixed tech stack — use whatever you're comfortable with.
Submit & Demo
Upload your code and a short write-up before time runs out. Shortlisted teams get a few minutes to demo in front of a panel of judges.
Results & Prizes
Winners are announced the same day. Prizes go to the top teams, but everyone walks away with a project they actually built and a better sense of what they can pull off in a day.
Tracks & Themes
Here are the hackathons conducted at KG College of Arts and Science:
RPA Hackathon
Automating repetitive tasks using Robotic Process Automation tools — invoice processing, data entry workflows, report generation, and similar business automation challenges.
School of Computational Sciences
Internal Competition for Smart India Hackathon (SIH)
An internal selection round where teams solve problem statements released by SIH. Top teams represent the college at the national-level Smart India Hackathon.
School of Computational Sciences
AI Hackathon
Building intelligent solutions using machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and computer vision — chatbots, prediction models, image classifiers, recommendation systems, and more.
School of Computational Sciences
Open Source Hackathon
Contributing to existing open source projects or building new ones. Focus is on collaboration, clean code, documentation, and community-driven development.
School of Computational Sciences
Cybersecurity Hackathon
Capture-the-flag challenges, vulnerability assessments, secure coding tasks, and network defence scenarios. Tests both offensive and defensive security skills.
School of Computational Sciences
Zoholyze '25 – Interdepartmental Hackathon
A cross-department hackathon where teams from different schools collaborate to solve problems using Zoho's suite of tools and platforms. Open to all departments.
Interdepartmental
FinXpert Hackathon
Finance-focused challenges — financial modelling, budgeting tools, investment analysis dashboards, fintech product prototypes, and data-driven business solutions.
School of Commerce and Management
Smart India Hackathon (SIH)
KG College of Arts and Science participates in the national-level Smart India Hackathon (SIH) every year. To select the best teams, the college conducts an internal hackathon where students form teams, solve officially released SIH problem statements, and present working prototypes. Top-performing teams are shortlisted to represent the college at the national SIH event.
Over the years, multiple teams from the college have won awards and prizes at the national-level SIH, competing against thousands of teams from across India.

Hackathons & Innovations
Innovations are the foundation of KGCAS, while hackathons are the platform for our students to express. Students are exposed to the innovation culture as early as the first year, well before participating in hackathons, where they get inspired by their seniors juggling ideas and prototypes. These activities also enhance their academics by developing a 'learning by doing' mindset. Students bond with each other through innovative concepts, forming tech communities. Some students build their futures by starting tech startups at a very young age.
